· Take The Elgar Route to places loved by Edward Elgar, England’s great composer, including the Elgars’ Graves in St Wulstan’s Churchyard at Little Malvern (2 miles away) and his Birthplace at Lower Broadheath, near Worcester.

· Malvern Theatres: frequent pre-West End and Broadway runs, as well as drama, dance, opera, concerts and films, and home to the English Symphony Orchestra (5 miles).

· Other Theatre & Music: at Stratford, Tewkesbury, and Cheltenham where there are Festivals of Music and Literature; The Three Choirs Festival alternates between the cathedrals of Worcester (12 miles), Hereford (17 miles) and Gloucester (19 miles).

· Sport in Malvern: Manor Park Tennis Club, the Worcestershire Golf Club, Splash Pool; exhilarating walks on The Malvern Hills with wonderful views for miles around (Malvern Outdoors in Church Street have all the kit!).

· Worcester: Royal Porcelain Factory and Seconds Shop, County Cricket Ground and regular Race Meetings (12 miles).

· Cheltenham Racecourse and super shopping (20 miles)

· Shelsley Walsh Hill Climbs from June to September (22 miles)

· The Three Counties Show Ground (2 miles): events there cover a huge range of interests from Agriculture to Antiques, Dogs, Horses and Sheep, Waterfowl, Quilting, Crafts & Toys, Motoring and Caravans, Wine and Food, ESO Outdoor Picnic Concert with fireworks. The big Shows are the increasingly popular Royal Horticultural Society Spring Gardening Show in May, The Three Counties Show in June and the Malvern Autumn Show in September.

· Fairs & Festivals: Annual Welland Steam Rally (last weekend in July);

At Upton-upon-Severn (3 miles) Jazz Festival, Folk Music, Cajun Dance and Water festivals;

At Eastnor Castle (5 miles) Craft, Wood and Fine Food and Drink festivals;

At Ledbury (7 miles) The Hop Fair, Poetry and Music Festivals – and a good cook shop and art gallery.

· Gardens & Nurseries: For keen gardeners there are many interesting gardens and nurseries to visit nearby.

Here are a few of our own ideas, and to some we can arrange visits even if not officially open:

o       All within 5 to 10 minutes drive are The National Collection of Nerines in Welland, the gardens of Little Malvern Court, Barnards Green House, Grange Farm Nursery at Guarlford, and Croome Park designed by Capability Brown (now under restoration by The National Trust)

o       Within 10 to 15 minutes you can reach The National Collection of Michaelmas Daisies at Colwall, Eastnor Castle Arboretum near Ledbury, The Manor House at Birlingham, and RHS Pershore

o       All within an hour are many other wonderful gardens in The Three Counties including Eastgrove Cottage, Stone House and Burford House in Worcestershire; Hampton Court and Berrington Hall in Herefordshire; Hidcote, Kiftsgate, Barnsley, Sezincote, Sudeley Castle and Westonbirt in Gloucestershire - and Coughton Court in Warwickshire
